colour alchemy for the home and the stage

________________________________________

This page contains a few samples of our marbling and wood graining work, notably for the prestigious Restaurant Ledoyen established in 1792 on the Champs Elysées in Paris, and another more recent project in the south-west of Ireland newly constructed in 2007 at Cahersiveen, The Watermarque Hotel in County Kerry.

Executed for the most part in water based paints for speed of execution, and mainly to avoid the hazard of dust on building sites as the painted surface dries, water based techniques are usually quicker and can add a stylistic liberty. However, when conditions permit, the use of oil based techniques can permit us to achieve a greater depth and richness in the quality of the finished work, a realism can be gained by the addition of successive glazes, which you can judge by the quality of the Brèche Caroline marble columns and the Mahogany and Ebony doorway graining of the Ledoyen Restaurant that are illustrated on this page.

The imitation of current fashionable marbles:
White Veined, Grey Breccia, Yellow Sienna, Rouge Royal, Vert de Mer, Violet Breccia, Sarrancolin, Portor, Petit and Grand Antique, Onyx, Granite.
